negative inventory
Definition
A condition that exists when inventory count suggests that there is less than zero of the item in question. This is a common temporary inventory condition that occurs because of timing issues in the transfer of product or the improper reporting of the count when multiple locations are used for the same product. The decision to fix the supposed error in the system by manually changing the negative number to zero is often a mistake since the error would self-correct shortly.
