Definition
Activity or task that incurs expenditure of time and/or money, but does not contribute to the customer satisfaction, service, or value. All such activities, however, are not unnecessary but include essential functions such as accounting, inspection, storage, transportation, etc. Other non value adding activities such as recall, rework, and waste of effort, must be minimized or eliminated.
