occupier's liability
Definition
Property occupier's common duty of care to all those who visit (by explicit or implied invitation or permission) his or her premises to ensure that they will be reasonably safe in using the premises or facilities for the purpose they were allowed in. To trespassers and others (who enter the premises lawfully but without permission) the occupier may owe the duty to offer protection from dangers or risks on the premises he or she is aware of, or has reasonable grounds to know.
