off-line transaction processing
Definition
The recording of information from a credit card for later processing. Off-line transaction processing enables credit cards to be accepted as a form of payment even at points of sale without real-time connections to credit card companies. This method also increases the risk of identity theft, as it results in card data being stored in more locations without verifiable information security safeguards.
