oil economy
Definition
The portion of the overall economy connected to or depending on the production, refinement, sale, or use of petroleum. Because oil is required for production and transportation of many other goods, as well as consumer uses such as automobile fuel and heating, events that affect the oil economy have significant effects on other areas of the economy.
