patent reexamination
Definition
If a patent has already been issued, this process is conducted to verify the scope and claims of that patent. This is done through the United States Patent and Trademark Office. This reexamination is typically initiated by the original holder of the patent when they feel that another party has created a new product or service that could infringe on its patent.
