perfluorocarbon (PFC)
Definition
Chemical byproduct of aluminum smelting and semiconductor manufacturing, it consists of one or two carbon atoms combined with four to six fluorine atoms but no chlorine. PFCs persist for over a century in the atmosphere and their global warming potential is among the highest of all substances.
