printer control language (PCL)
Definition
Proprietary software (belonging usually to a printer manufacturer such as Hewlett Packard) that instructs a printer how to print a page. In comparison with page description-languages (such as Adobe's PostScript), PCLs do not offer device independence and a wide range of choices.
