quantity in transit
Definition
The total number of stock-keeping units (SKUs) that are currently being shipped from one location to another. This information is used to forecast delivery schedules. The quantity in transit data for a given load may be input in the inventory management software application once a bill of lading is created for an outbound shipment or once the shipment actually leaves the dock depending on how the system is set up.
