rank and cut

Definition

Decision making method in which opportunities or projects are ranked according to a specific criteria (such as cashflow, capital appreciation, risk factors). Allocation of capital begins with the top item and continues downwards until it is exhausted, and the remaining items are discarded (cut). It is an antithesis of portfolio management.
