real estate mortgage investment conduit (REMIC)
Definition
US pass-through investment vehicle (organized as an association, corporation, partnership, or trust) income from which is not subject to double taxation. REMICs issue mortgaged backed bonds at various risk levels (senior and subordinated classes) to offer greater investor flexibility than that offered by Collateralized Mortgaged Obligations (CMOs).
