reasonable care in examining documents

Definition

Bank's duty to examine all documents (presented under a documentary credit arrangement) with due care to establish their apparent (prima facie) compliance with the terms and conditions of the credit, and consistency in relation to one another. However, it is not the bank's duty to verify their accuracy, form, falsification or genuineness, or legal effect or sufficiency. And the bank is not liable or responsible for the condition, delivery, description, existence, packing, quality, quantity, value, or weight of the goods represented by such documents.
