recognizance
Definition
Bond posted or an undertaking given as a guaranty by an offender (called a recognizor) to perform/observe court-prescribed acts/conditions in exchange for avoiding a jail term in part or in full. These acts or conditions usually include keeping peace, being of good behavior, and appearing before the court when called.
