self-determination

Fundamental right of all people to freely decide own political status and to freely pursue own cultural, economic, and social development. The concept of self-determination was embodied first in the American Declaration Of Independence (1776) and then in the France's Declaration Of The Rights Of Man (1789). It is embodied also in the UN charter.
