Definition
The process of monitoring serial numbers from the point when the number is assigned to a component or product through to the point of sale to the end user. This tracking process is important for maintaining quality assurance, for administering product recalls, and for addressing warranty claims. A serial number tracking system may be integrated with many other applications from inventory control to billing software.
