1. Money paid by a borrower to effect the closing of a mortgage loan for expenses such as survey costs, appraisal (valuation) fee, attorney's fee, insurance, etc.
2. Accounting, legal, and other expenses incurred in termination and settlement of a contract or purchase order. Also called settlement expenses.
