Popular Terms
Termination of civil action (during or at the end of a trial) by voluntary agreement between the litigant parties. Normally, no formality other than a notice of discontinuance by the plaintiff is required. However, a settlement on behalf of a party under a disability (such as in case of a minor or a mental patient) is not valid without approval of the court.
