short refinance
Definition
A loan restructure where borrower refinances his mortgage in order to avoid foreclosure. The parties agree on a new loan wherein the lender lends the borrower an amount less than the outstanding loan. The proceeds are used to apply on the mortgage and the difference is forgiven by the lender. This is undertaken so that the lender can avoid the costs of foreclosure and the borrower can keep his home.
