side collateral
Definition
A pledge that does not fully cover the whole amount of a loan. For example, a borrower making a $1000 loan may pledge a $500 property as collateral for the loan with the agreement that the lender can sell the property in case the borrower fails to pay his obligation. The pledge can either be a physical or financial asset or it can be a personal guarantee.
