stacking efficiency
Definition
A measure of how effectively space is being used with a given stack of warehousing units. Horizontal separators (including pallets) are usually not counted in evaluating efficiency since they are necessary to protect the units and can't be eliminated. However, the actual size and shape of packaging itself may need to be restructured to eliminate unused airspace. Another consideration in stacking efficiency in terms of vertical space is calculating the maximum stackable height of a given unit relative to the height of a warehouse, storage container, vehicle interior, etc.
