Commercial printing: Process of creating slight overlap between abutting colors of a multicolor job in commercial (multipass) printing machines, to compensate for errors in registration of color plates. No trapping is required in inkjet (and other single pass) printing because there are no registration problems.

Computing: Feature of a computer-process monitoring software that detects and branches off errors to a diagnostic or error handling routine and prevents interruptions in the execution of a program.
