trespass
Definition
Unjustifiable direct interference with a person or his or her property whether intentional (willful) or innocent (due to ignorance or negligence). A trespass is normally a tort (civil wrong where it is not necessary to prove any damage was caused) and not a crime (public wrong that triggers a prosecution and leads to punishment). Therefore the notice 'Trespassers Will Be Prosecuted' is usually misleading.
