trust enforcer

Definition

Some jurisdictions allow a trustor to appoint a trust enforcer to oversee the trustee's actions on behalf of the trust. He or she consults with the trust's legal advisors, can appoint or remove trustees, has veto power over the trustee in discretionary matters, but cannot interfere with respect to issues unequivocally covered in the trust agreement for which trustee alone is responsible. Also called trust protector.
