unavailable funds
Definition
Monies held in an account which is not immediately available for use by the account holder. Funds may be unavailable for several reasons including a temporary hold placed on deposits to make certain checks deposited clear the issuing account, holds placed for pending purchases or holds placed as a result of a garnishment or other action against the account. Unavailable funds may also be a reject response given when a party attempts to make a purchase against an account that has insufficient funds to cover the purchase cost.
