unit clearance

Definition

The space required on either side, above, or below a given unit to allow for maneuvering of personnel or equipment to handle the stocked inventory. For example, if a fork truck will be used to lift a pallet off a rack, there must be sufficient clearance between the pallet and the tier above to accommodate the motion of lifting the pallet upward before sliding it out.
