vitrification
Definition
Waste disposal method for immobilizing and encapsulating radioactive and other types of hazardous materials. In vitrification process, high temperature (typically between 1100°C-1600°C) is employed to melt the material into a liquid which, on cooling, transforms to an amorphous, glass-like solid and permanently captures the waste.
