1. Computing: Amount of data processed by a computer in a single instruction. It varies with the processor being used: earlier processors could handle 16-bit words, the current processors can handle 32-bit long words, and the more recent ones can handle 64-bit words.
2. Typing: Typing speed usually expressed in words per minute (WPM) where generally one word equals 5 characters (spaces included).
