yield to maturity (YTM)

Definition

Average annual yield of an interest-generating investment (such as a bond) that is held by the investor for its life (maturity period). YTM takes into account the purchase price, capital gain or loss, redemption price, maturity period, interest rate, and the frequency of interest payments. It is a more precise and more complex method of yield than yield to call.
